BANGKOK, June 20 (TNA) – Thailand will host the 5thASEAN film festival in celebration of the ASEAN Cultural Year 2019 from July 3-8.
Culture Minister, Veera Rojpojanarat told a press conference that ASEAN’s culture ministers resolved at the meeting in Yokyakarta in October last year to designate the year 2019 as ASEAN Cultural Year.
As part of the ASEAN cultural promotion, the Thai Ministry of Culture boosts cooperation in the film industry among ASEAN member countries and pushes for Thailand to become the center of film production.
The ministry and the National Federation of Motion Pictures and Contents Associations, public and private sectors will jointly organize the 5th Bangkok Asean Film Festival 2019 at the SF World Cinema, Central World and Paragon Cineplex, Siam Paragon shopping complex.
Embassies of ASEAN member countries selected movies for screening at the festival.
Pimpaka Toweera, the festival’s programing director said that the event will features 30 movies from 13 countries also including China, Korea and Japan.
The festival will be opened with the screening of “Memories of My Body” from Indonesia.
Ten contesting movies and three valuable films – Ai Tui from Thailand, Moon Over from Malaysia and Genghis Khan from the Philippines along with 16 other movies will be screened at the festival.
Three awards will be presented – Best ASEAN Film, Jury Prize and Special Mention. The winners will receive trophies and cash prizes of US$10,000, US$5,000 and US$ 2,000 respectively.
