AYUTTHAYA, May 9 (TNA) – Thai farmers across the country
begin their planting season on the auspicious day of Royal Ploughing Ceremony.
As the Royal Ploughing Ceremony was held in Bangkok, farmers
started planting crops early Thursday morning while some attended religious
rites at in their localities and local government offices.
Rice farmers in many areas began sowing rice seeds with a belief
that starting cultivation on this auspicious day will lead to a good
harvest. They hoped for abundant water
for another season of great yield.
An agricultural studies center in Ayutthaya province handed
out rice seeds for farmers. The center
also encouraged farmers to erect traditional scarecrows, which are rarely seen
in present days.
Agriculturalists in other provinces also performed
traditional ceremonies. In Northeastern
region like Bueng Kan province people worshipped a goddess of rice to boost
morale among farmers.(TNA)
