BANGKOK, Dec 9 (TNA) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha visited Suphan Buri province today to hand out financial assistance to local rice growers while confirming that his government was trying to solve low produce prices to provide farmers with secure income.
Gen Prayut presided over a ceremony to present the financial assistance to the rice farmers who participated in the government’s rice price insurance project for the 2021/2022 crop season at the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) in Si Prachan district.
The prime minister said that nationwide rice growers would receive the financial aid and he hoped it would be their New Year gift.
He said the government was concerned about the life of farmers and thus insured the income of the farmers who grew five crops, the prices of which fluctuated.
The produce price insurance was among solutions to farmers’ income and others included the development of rice quality and the promotion of technological application in agriculture to cut cultivation costs, Gen Prayut said.
He asked BAAC to increase the central markets where farmers can sell produce at reasonable prices. He also ordered research on processed rice products to increase the value of rice, the prime minister said. (TNA)
