KANCHANABURI, April 25 (TNA) – The Annual ANZAC Day service
is held in Thailand’s Kanchanaburi province, commemorating those who perished
in World War II building the infamous Burma ‘Death’ Railway.
The Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) Day service
at Kanchanaburi war cemetery on Thursday was attended by Kanchanaburi Governor
Jirakiat Bhumisawat, Australian Ambassador Allan McKinnon and New Zealand
Ambassador Taha Macpherson along with military representatives of many nations.
Marking the landing of ANZAC troops on the Gallipoli
Peninsula on the 25th of April 1915, people observed the day of remembrance for
those who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping
operations” around the world.
In Thailand, people gathered for the commemorative services
and wreath laying ceremonies in Kanchanaburi.
They took part in the wreath-laying and ANZAC Day Dawn
service at Hellfire Pass where a great number of allied Prisoners of War and
Asian laborers lost their lives during the construction of the Thai-Burma
