CHIANG MAI, April 24 (TNA) — GE Medical Systems (Thailand) Co lends its portable ultrasound machines for Chiang Mai University’s Faculty of Medicine to use to develop its medical students and offer medical services to remote patients.
Executives of both organizations announced the cooperation at the faculty. Prof Dr Bannakit Lojanapiwat, dean of the faculty, said GE supplied its latest portable ultrasound machines to support the education of about 200 medical students in various fields.
“The application of portable ultrasound machines by doctors in the field breaks through obstacles that limit the access to treatment of patients in remote and underdeveloped areas in the North,” he said.
The machines were capable of fast-scanning of hearts, lungs and abdomens and showed results in 10 minutes, he said. Doctors could quickly send scanned patients to relevant departments in hospitals and help reduce the financial burdens of some patients who could avoid full-scale ultrasound scanning, Prof Dr Bannakit said.
The Faculty of Medicine at Chiang Mai University is the first medical school in Southeast Asia to receive such support from GE. (TNA)
