BANGKOK, April 2 (TNA) – A Japanese scammer has been arrested
in Thailand after fleeing a fraudulent charge in Nara, Japan.
Kazuya Hashimoto is wanted for conspiring with six others to
deceive a 75-year-old woman to wire them eight million yen in July 2013.
Thai police traced the 39-year-old in Bangkok upon a request
from the Japanese Embassy, Immigration Bureau chief Pol Lt-General Surachet
Hakpan said on Tuesday.
The man and his accomplices told the victim that they were
policemen investigating illegal transaction; to avoid prosecution the woman had
to transfer the sum to a special bank account, said Surachet.
Hashimoto’s case was not related to 15 Japanese men recently
arrested for operating a call-center scam in Thailand’s Chon Buri province, he
added.(TNA)
