CHIANG RAI, March 21 (TNA) – About 5,000 Thai, Myanmar
and Lao people joined annual traditional activities to worship Buddha relics at
Wat Phra That Doi Tung in Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai province.
The worshippers included Thai people, Thai hill tribe
people, Myanmar people from Kengtung town and Lao people from Bokeo province.
Chiang Rai Governor Prachon Pratsakul presided over a
ceremony to worship Buddha’s left collarbone enshrined in a pagoda at the
temple in Huai Khrai sub-district.
Holy water from His Majesty the King Maha Vajiralongkorn and
Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn were also presented in the
bathing ceremony.
There was also a long Lanna-styled procession leading
participants to the pagoda. It included traditional flags, cloth for the pagoda
and ethnic people.
The annual event was aimed at maintaining the longstanding
tradition and promoting tourism in Chiang Rai province. (TNA)
