BANGKOK, March 7 (TNA) – The Tourism Authority of Thailand
(TAT) has led 88 Thai tourism operators for trade negotiation at the
Internationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin (ITB), the World’s Leading Travel Trade
Show, held in the German capital until March 10.
Tourism and Sports Minister Weerasak Kowsurat opened Thailand
Pavilion at Messe Berlin Exhibition Ground to showcase Thailand’s tourism
products. Thai tourism operators,
airlines and hoteliers are showcasing their tourism related products and
service.
Similar to previous Thailand’s presence at the ITB, Thai tourism
operators and TAT officials had great opportunities to meet with travel
executives and government representatives from around the world.
During the event, the TAT has facilitated business-matching
opportunities for Thai businesses with leading European-based tour operators.
Besides eco-friendly tourism, TAT governor Yuthasak Supasorn
said 10 secondary provinces are promoted
under the theme, “Open to the New Shades of Thailand” to draw more foreign
tourists to lesser known travel destinations.
These secondary provinces are Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son,
Sukhothai, Nan, Trat, Chanthaburi, Chumphon, Ranong, Trang and Nakhon Si
Thammarat.
Tourism innovation including applications and websites are
used to give information to visitors at the fair.
More than 70 per cent of European tourists like to travel by
themselves and seek information from websites to save cost during long
holidays. They spend around 17-19 days in Thailand.
TAT has organised Thailand Pavilion annually at the ITB
since 2012, bringing a large Thai delegation to present new tourism products
and services to European counterparts. (TNA)
