BANGKOK, Feb 9 (TNA) — Thai Raksa Chart political party has abruptly cancelled an election campaign, earlier scheduled to be held Saturday evening, after a Royal command forbidding Princess Ubolratana from running as a sole prime minister candidate under the party umbrella.
The party told journalists that its key members including leader Lieutenant Preechapol Pongpanich and Nuttawut Saikuar, chairman of election campaign, have cancelled plans to launch an election campaign at a Chinese association in Bangkok’s Sathorn area this evening.
No details were given to the media.
Key members of the party, running for a general election to be held on March 24, were die to make speeches helping Mom Luang Natapol Devakula, running in Bangkok’s Constituency 2, and Pongpisut Jitsophon, running in Constituency 3.
The abrupt cancellation came after His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn issued the Royal command late Friday, saying that royal family members should not get involved in politics and must act neutral.
Thai Raksa Chart officially announced early Friday that the princess, elder sister of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, would run as sole prime minister candidate for the party in the general election.
Friday was the last day for election candidates to register themselves for the election. (TNA)
