BANGKOK, Jan 18 (TNA) – Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon has ordered traffic police and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to effectively relieve traffic congestion and control dust at railway construction sites to control hazardous dust particles.
Defence Ministry spokesman Lt Gen Kongcheep Tantrawanit said Gen Prawit laid down the order to the Royal Thai Police Office’s traffic division and the BMA, saying effective traffic solutions would reduce exhaust emissions and thus hazardous smog.
“Gen Prawit stressed officials must make the most use of existing technologies. Computers will be applied seriously with CCTVs and traffic light systems to solve traffic congestion during rush hours. Besides, traffic should be well managed on Ratchadaphisek ring road to reduce intersecting traffic directions and relieve congestion in its vicinity,” Lt Gen Kongcheep said.
Gen Prawit ordered the BMA to effectively curb dust at the construction site of new electric railways on main streets including Ramkhamhaeng, Lat Phrao, Phahon Yothin and Chaeng Watthana roads and have contractors minimize road blockages to improve traffic flows on the roads.
The deputy prime minister also told police to urge motorists and public transport drivers to observe traffic rules to ensure smooth traffic flows, Lt Gen Kongcheep said. (TNA)
