NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, Jan 7 (TNA) – Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-ocha is visiting Nakhon Si Thammarat province to observe rehabilitation works in areas, affected by tropical storm Pabuk.
He has been accompanied by ministers to boost morale of the victims in the hardest-hit province.
Gen. Prayut gave relief supplies to affected villagers and inspected the damage at Laem Talumphuk .
He then met students and villagers at Ratchaprachanukroh School in Pak Phanang district before going to the provincial seat to observe repairs of houses.
The prime minister will travel by boat to distribute relief supplies to residents along Pak Nakhon canal and will be return to Bangkok at 5.30 pm. to attend a fund-raising TV programme to help victims of tropical Pabuk.
The event will be broadcast live on MCOT HD 30 from 8.30 pm.-10.00 p.m.
The prime minister will take phone calls to receive donations from public members.
The Department of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported that tropical storm Pabuk affected 720,558 people in 23 provinces from Jan 3-6.
The storm claimed four lives and the situations remain in three provinces – Nakhon Si Thammarat, Surat Thani and Chumphon.
The department and agencies concerned have assessed the damage on houses and infrastructure to accelerate rehabilitation of public utilities. (TNA)
