KRABI, Dec 19 (TNA) – National park officials have placed buoys with red flags to mark the no-entry zones at Maya Bay after some tourists were seen swimming into the closed area.
The Maya bay in the Nopparat Thara – Mu Koh Phi Phi national park in Krabi province has been closed indefinitely after heavy tourism negatively affected the environment there.
Head of the national park, Worapoj Lomlim ordered officials to place the markers to ban swimmers from entering the Maya Bay as it could cause damage to newly –grown corals and ruin the rehabilitation effort to revive the ecology at Maya Bay.
After several months of closure, a school of Blacktip Reef Sharks was seen swimming in the bay, which is the positive sign for the recovery of the ecology. (TNA)
