BANGKOK, Dec 19 (TNA) — Deputy Prime Minister/Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon ordered authorities to seriously ensure public safety and conveniences during New Year holidays.
In a teleconference with security and administrative authorities nationwide, Gen Prawit said security authorities would intensify intelligence on security-threatening groups and be on standby around the clock to watch out for possible terror acts. They would focus on transport terminals and festive venues.
He also ordered security officials to set up checkpoints to block the transport of narcotics, weapons, contrabands and illegal migrants.
He told the Transport Ministry to strictly supervise public transport operators, maintain roads and ask truck operators to suspend services during New Year holidays.
Besides, Gen Prawit instructed administrators, military personnel and police to campaign for traffic rules at local levels to minimize road accidents and casualties during the New Year festival. (TNA)
