BANGKOK, DEC 10 (TNA) – Thailand celebrates the National
Constitution Day marking the day King Rama VII granted the first charter on
December 10, 1932.
Thai public and private sectors paid respect to King Rama VII
or King Prajadhipok with the main commemoration at the King’s monument at
Parliament on Monday.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, Cabinet ministers, senior
officials and representatives of political parties were scheduled to join a
ceremony to pay their respects to King Rama VII Monday afternoon.
King Rama VII graciously signed the first charter into
effect on December 10, 1932, which marked the country’s transition from
absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy.
The country’s current charter is the 20th constitution,
drafted after the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) assumed power
through the 2014 military coup. It
became effective on April 6, 2017, after a national referendum.(TNA)
