ANG THONG, DEC 6 (TNA) – Local farmers and villagers in
the central province of Ang Thong on Thursday participated in the rice
harvesting activity in a paddy field as part of a campaign to promote
traditional rice culture and to honour Thailand’s late King Bhumibol Adulyadej
and Queen Sirikit.
The rice was planted in Ang Thong’s Sawaeng Ha District in
August when Thailand celebrated the
National Mother’s Day, Queen Sirikit’s birthday anniversary.
After 124 days, the crop was ready to harvest on Thursday,
one day after the late King Bhumibol’s birthday, also observed as National
Father’s Day.
Warat Mapranet, District Chief of Sawaeng Ha, said the two
important days of Thailand were the reason of this rice harvest activity.
Participants celebrated Thai rice cultivation and embraced
Sufficiency Economy Philosophy of the late King, he said.
The cultivated rice would be offered for a lunch programs at
local schools, Warat added.(TNA)
