ANG THONG, Nov 22 (TNA) – Inmates have a rare privilege of celebrating Loy Krathong Festival inside correctional facility in Thailand’s Ang Thong province.
While Thai people were heading out for Loy Krathong festivities on Thursday, the prisoners at Ang Thong Provincial Prison are able to enjoy cultural activities as well.
They took part in centuries-old customs from making krathongs or floats from natural materials, joining procession and other essential elements of Loy Krathong, one of the most celebrated Thai festivals.
On the full moon day of the 12th month of traditional Thai calendar, over 1,900 inmates at the prison entertained themselves with musical shows, traditional dance and even a beauty contest.
Supoj Suan-in, commander of the prison, said the Loy Krathong activities were part of inmate rehabilitation efforts, allowing inmates to cultural conservation.(TNA)
