CHIANG MAI, Nov 23 (TNA) – Almost 30 lanterns fell in Chiang Mai airport after the traditional floating of lanterns during the Loy Krathong festival on Thursday night.
Airport officials collected the debris of 28 lanterns, down from almost 70 lanterns, found in the airport last year.
Revellers sought permission from local authorities to release 70,000 lanterns in Chiang Mai.
Several tens of thousands of lanterns are expected to be launched tonight, the last day of the annual Yee Peng or northern traditional Loy Krathong Festival.
Chiang Mai airports limits the period for festival goers to release lantern from 7 pm. to 1 am. to prevent any impacts on aviation. (TNA)
