BANGKOK, Nov 23 (TNA) — The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has confirmed that the new central railway terminal in Bang Sue area of Bangkok will open in early 2021 and take over the roles of the national railway hub from the Hua Lamphong station.
Acting SRT governor Worawut Mala said the construction of the Bang Sue station would be completed in November next year and its signaling system would be installed within mid-2020. Its test run is set to begin in June 2020 before its opening in January 2021.
After the opening, the SRT would take about six months to move all trains and railway hub facilities to the Bang Sue station and the Hua Lamphong station could be used as an extended station of the Red Line railway, Mr Worawut said.
According to him, the Bang Sue station has been 60.28% completed. It will have three floors. The first floor will be for ticket sales, passenger lounges, shops and connection to Bangkok’s subway. The second floor will serve commuter and long-haul trains. The third floor will accommodate inter-regional standard-gauge trains and high-speed trains. (TNA)
