BANGKOK, Nov 2 (TNA) — Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak will lead a delegation to woo Chinese investors to the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) as the government expects investment projects worth 300 billion baht there this year.
Industry Minister Uttama Savanayana said Mr Somkid, economic ministers and representatives of the private sector would visit Beijing and Shanghai on Nov 3-8 to invite Chinese operators, especially those in the high-technology sector, to invest in the EEC.
Kanit Sangsubhan, secretary-general of the Eastern Economic Corridor Office, said the EEC eyed Chinese electronic operators and the roadshow trip would respond to the recent decision of China and Japan to jointly invest in third-party countries including Thailand. China and Japan planned to invest in robotic, medical, smart city and infrastructure projects in the EEC, he said.
Since 2016, the private sector has sought promotional privileges for investment projects worth altogether 720 billion baht in the EEC. The EEC office expects such applications for investment projects worth 300 billion baht this year. So far this year promotional privileges have been sought for investment projects worth 230 billion baht in the EEC, Mr Kanit said. (TNA)
