BANGKOK, Oct 27 (TNA) — Incumbent Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said he would not quit the party if not re- elected the party leader, due to be known next month.
Mr Abhisit, a former prime minister, said he would travel and meet members of Democrat Party, Thailand’s oldest political party, while saying that Friday’s debate of three candidates who are contesting for the party leadership post was a good model under the democratic system.
Two other contestants are Dr Warong Dechgitvigrom and a former deputy leader Alongkorn Ponlaboot.
Mr Abhisit said he would continue meeting party members until next Wednesday and urged the members to come out and cast their votes.
Reiterating that he would not resign from the party if not re-elected, Mr Abhisit said he believed the debate would not create a divisiveness among the party members because the race is being held under the democratic principle.
A general election is expected to be held in early 2019. (TNA)
