BANGKOK, May 7 (TNA) – Nearly 1 million Thai farmers will
receive cash handout for COVID-19 compensation this month, Agriculture Minister
Chalermchai Sri-on said on Thursday.
Chalermchai confirmed that the farmers on the list of the
Ministry would receive 5,000 baht each for three months to alleviate the
effects of the coronavirus outbreak.
The government has already given similar financial aid to
informal workers who have no social security benefits.
The list of registered farmers was being screened to ensure
the accuracy of eligible recipients. Chalermchai said during a launch of
COVID-19 food donation programme.
By the middle of this month, the Bank for Agriculture and
Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) is expected to transfer the cash to about 10
million farmers.(TNA)
