BANGKOK, Feb 22 (TNA) – A total of 20 persons have been recovered from the novel coronavirus while another 15 patients are still receiving medical treatment at hospitals in Thailand.
Dr.Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman of Public Health Ministry said people who are suspected of having the disease have increased by 101, bringing the total number to 1,252 persons.
The number of suspected Covid-19 cases has increased after screening was expanded to visitors from more countries and territories including South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau, he said.
Patients with pneumonia in eight Thai provinces – the popular destinations of Chinese tourists before the outbreak happened have been also under monitoring as suspected cases.
The Disease Control Department is now considering stepping up screening to cover visitors from Italy after it reported an increase of Covid-19 patients, said Thanarak Plipat, Department of Disease Control director-general.
Asked whether the Thailand Grand Prix motorcycling event 2020 due to be held in the northeastern province of Buri Ram in March and a political rally would pose any risk from the disease, Dr. Thanarak said the danger exists and the events and mass gathering should be suspended. However, it also depends on how organisers could manage those risks. (TNA)
