BANGKOK, Jan 22 (TNA) — The National Environment Board will issue anti-smog measures tomorrow and they will concern the limited use of vehicles, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Varawut Silpa-archa said.
“The National Environment Board chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon will discuss measures tomorrow. Initially there may be measures to reduce the use of trucks and general vehicles on streets… Some measures may affect people and cause inconveniences. We must apologize for that,” he said.
Asked if the government would procure giant air purifiers, Mr Varawut said the government could consider it. However, it would not solve the problem at its root cause. Everyone would like to see an increase in green areas, he said.
Meanwhile, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration reported that smog levels were unsafe in 14 out of 50 districts in the capital this morning. They were Yannawa, Bang Kholaem, Chatuchak, Wang Thonglang, Bang Kapi, Lat Krabang, Klong San, Bang Khen, Klong Toey, Bang Sue, Laksi, Bung Kum, Sai Mai and Don Muang.
The pollution was relieved thanks to easterly and southeasterly winds, it said. (TNA)
