BANGKOK, Dec 18 (TNA) — The Royal Thai Police Office mobilizes about 80,000 policemen to promote road safety during the New Year holiday nationwide.
Deputy national police chief Pol Gen Suwat Chaengyodsuk said the policemen would focus on the traffic issues that frequently caused accidents and casualties including speed and drink driving and failure to wear crash helmets.
Besides, police would facilitate traffic, clear construction sites from traffic lanes and open special traffic lanes. In addition, heavy trucks will be banned from running on Mitrapharp Highway between Thap Kwang and Khlong Phai; highway sections between Kabin Buri and Pak Thong Chai, Kabin Buri and Nadee, and Aranyaprathet and Nang Rong; and on Phahon Yothin Highway and Rangsiyothai Road in Nakhon Sawan province from Dec 27 to Jan 3.
Police would also provide traffic information at more than 2,000 rest areas of highways police and partners nationwide.
Pol Gen Suwat said that the New Year exodus from Bangkok should happen on Dec 27-31 and heavy return traffic was likely on Jan 1-3. (TNA)
