BANGKOK, Dec 17 (TNA) – Officials are gathering information to take legal action against persons behind fake news, disseminated online to discredit the government.
Following spread of fake news, related to the government policies, Digital Economy and Society Minister Buddhipongse Punnakanta said he discussed with agencies concerned to take legal action against those behind distribution of fake news.
The minister said that the Anti-Fake News Center under his ministry had clarified about fake news through all existing channels to correct recent fake news such as increasing vat on sanitary napkins and issuing an emergency decree. He said yesterday he held talks with the police and suspects would be summoned for questioning soon.
Regarding the Dec 13 tweet of Future Forward Party spokeswoman Pannikar Vanich, allegedly modifying Children’s Day motto of the Prime Minister, the minister said representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office had already filed a complaint to the police.
According to initial investigation, he said she is the first one who put the information into the computer system.
More investigation will be conducted on the case to see if her action is considered violating the Computer Act, Section 14. (TNA)
