BANGKOK, Dec 9 (TNA) – Acting Privy Council president Gen Surayud Chulanont was assigned by His Majesty the King to collect the relics and ashes of statesman Gen. Prem Tinsulanonda on Monday morning after the completion of the royally-sponsored cremation.
The cremation of the late Privy Council president and statesman, Gen Prem took place at Wat Debsirindrawas yesterday.
His Majesty the King, accompanied by Her Majesty the Queen, presided over the ceremony to light the fire for the cremation at 5 pm.
Gen Prem died of heart failure at the age of 98 on May 26.
The late Privy Council president was the Thailand’s 16th prime minister from 1980 to 1988.
He was appointed a member of the Privy Council or the King’s advisors in 1988 and became Privy Council president in 1998. (TNA)
