BANGKOK, May 27 (TNA) – The royally-sponsored bathing rite Privy Council President, Gen. Prem Tinsulanonda will be held at Wat Benchamabophit Dusitwanaram in Bangkok’s Dusit district today.
His Majesty the King has graciously designated Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn as His Majesty’s Representative to preside over the ceremony at Song Dharm Hall, 6 pm.
Gen. Prem died of heart failure at the age of 98. He was admitted to hospital early Sunday morning after he did not wake up and found unconscious at Si Sao Thewes residence. His body will be moved from Phramongkutklao Hospital to Wat Benchamabophit this afternoon.
Gen. Prem Tinsulanonda was statesman, president of the Privy Council and former premier, who is regarded as one of the most powerful figures in Thai politics.
The European Union in Thailand expressed deepest condolences on the passing of Gen. Prem on its Facebook page.
It said in decades of dedicated service to the Monarchy and country, he made a contribution to shaping modern Thailand that remains unmatched to this day. (TNA)
