BANGKOK, Nov 18 (TNA) — Police have prepared traffic measures to secure routes for Pope Francis during his visit to Thailand this week.
Pol Maj Gen Jirasant Kaeosaeng-ek, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said that during the visit on Nov 20-23, police would close traffic only on the routes of Pope Francis’s motorcade and the closure would start late and end early.
According to the deputy commissioner, police will use the Don Muang tollway, the expressway, Rama IV Road and Sathon Road leading to the Vatican embassy where Pope Francis will stay. The route will be used from noon to 1pm on Nov 20 and from 8am to 9am on Nov 23 to facilitate Pope Francis’s arrival and departure respectively.
Besides, Pope Francis will visit seven places in Bangkok on Nov 21. They are Government House, Saint Louis Hospital, Amphorn Sathan Residential Hall, Wat Ratchabophit, National Stadium, Chulalongkorn University and Assumption Cathedral. Most of the routes are in inner Bangkok. Pol Maj Gen Jirasant asked people to avoid routes to the places.
He said that anti-riot police and Special Branch police would ensure security for Pope Francis during the visit. (TNA)
