GUANGDONG, Oct 22 (TNA) – Thai Deputy Prime Minister
Somkid Jatusripitak invited China’s leading electrical appliance
manufacturer Midea Group to invest in Thailand during his visit to Guangdong,
China, on Monday.
Somkid met with Midea Group chairman and chief executive
Paul Fang and urged the company to expand its investment in Thai government’s
flagship Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) project, especially for research and
development and innovation.
Midea Group has already manufactured facilities in Thailand,
employing nearly 5,000 Thai workers.
The firm produces 4.5 million units of electrical appliances with a
combined investment worth around THB12 billion.
Fang said the company had consulted related parties for
investment expansion in Thailand.
Somkid’s current visit to Guangdong and Hong Kong is aimed
at promoting cooperation between Thailand and China’s Greater Bay Area (GBA)
initiative.
He has showed the benefits of cooperation as Thailand is
geographically positioned as a gateway to the CLMV countries including
Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam which have a population of over 240
million.(TNA)
