TRANG, Oct 17 (TNA) — The Trang Coastal Fisheries Research and Development Center is producing clownfish of 15 new species for sales and encouraging farmers to buy them for their clownfish breeding business.
Staff of the center introduced its clownfish products today. The project was aimed at reducing illegal catches of clownfish in their natural habitats and releasing clownfish into the sea, said Santiphap Tehbuyu, official at the Trang Coastal Fisheries Research and Development Center.
According to him, clownfish of the 15 new species raised at the center are available with certificates at 70-350 baht per fish that is 3-4 centimeters long. Those of the Snow Flake, Back Ice and Picasso types are priced at 320-350 baht each for their beautiful and outstanding patterns and colors.
Breeding clownfish was not so difficult. Each female clownfish laid eggs twice a month and each set of eggs produced 100-200 baby fish and took only seven days to hatch, Mr Santiphap said.
The center was ready to share its knowledge on the clownfish breeding to interested parties, he said. (TNA)
