BANGKOK, Oct 9 (TNA) – The Public Health Ministry will open additional cannabis clinics at 30 hospitals later this month to improve patient access to medical cannabis.
The first cannabis clinic was opened at Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital in Prachin Buri province in June. The hospital is licensed to produce cannabis-based medication and has distributed 3,000 bottles cannabis oil to 11 hospitals in the eastern region and Samut Prakan province in preparation for the opening of cannabis clinic.
Eleven hospitals are Chonburi Hospital, Banglamung Hospital, Rayong Hospital, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Memorial Hospital in Rayong, Klaeng Hospital, Trat Hospital, Prapokklao Hospital, Samut Prakan Hospital, Bang Phli Hospital, Buddhasothorn Hospital and Sakaeo Crown Prince Hospital.
More cannabis oil will be sent to the rest of 19 hospitals by Oct 18 before all additional 30 cannabis clinics will be opened on Oct 28.
Cannabis clinics at all hospitals will be operational twice a month, on the second and the fourth Mondays of each month.
A committee, tasked with following up progress in the use of medical cannabis last month resolved to open cannabis clinics at additional 30 hospitals under the ministry’s administration to reduce crowds at existing cannabis clinics.
Thirteen pilot hospitals and 25 hospitals, prescribing traditional Thai medicine opened cannabis clinics to treat registered patients after Thailand legalized medical cannabis. The use of cannabis-based medication is restricted to patients, who do not respond to conventional medical treatment. (TNA)
