NAKHON NAYOK, Oct 7 (TNA) — Park rangers planned to use big nets to collect the carcasses of six wild elephants that drowned after falling into the Haew Narok waterfall of the Khao Yai National Park on Saturday.
Park rangers boarded boats in the Khlong Tha Dan canal and travelled about eight kilometres from the entrance of 21st the Khao Yai protection unit to the beginning of the canal near the Haew Narok waterfall.
Wichai Pornleesaengsuwan, director of Protected Areas Regional Office 1, said the area was suitable for the installation of nets to prevent the carcasses from flowing into the Khun Dan Prakan Chon dam and the Nakhon Nayok river.
Old fishing nets would be tied to trees on both sides of the canal. The nets could hold hundreds of tons, Mr Wichai said.
He said he had no ideas when the carcasses would reach the location because it was about three kilometers from the waterfall and the canal section to the waterfall was winding and full of rocks. (TNA)
