NAKHON PATHOM, Sept 30 (TNA) – A building of Thai Film Archive in Buddha Monthon district caught fire last night and many priceless films were destroyed.
The fire started at about 7pm on Sept 29 at the two-storey building in the compound of Thai Film Archive in Salaya sub-district. Seven fire engines were deployed to put it out.
The building was made from eight cargo containers modified to store historical films. Firefighters took about an hour to extinguish the blaze.
Security guard Ekathat Sriwong said flames started on the second floor.
Dome Sukhawong, former director of Thai Film Archive, said the 1-million-baht building had been used since 2010. Its first floor was an office area and the second floor was for the storage and examination of historical films.
“It is the great damage because the destroyed films were historical materials and the heritage of Thai people. They were priceless,” Mr Dome said. The destroyed films included donated films.
He initially attributed the fire to a short circuit. (TNA)
