TRANG, Sept 27 (TNA) – Single-use plastic straws are put
into good use as pillow stuffing by people with disabilities in the southern
province of Trang.
The environmentalism idea of plastic straw as pillow filling
material comes from a people of disabilities’ club of Trang Municipality aiming
to reduce plastic waste.
About 20 club members collect discarded plastic straws from
coffee shops in their communities for pillow stuffing. The straws are cleaned and sanitized in
disinfectant before being shredded.
They then donate pillows for bedridden patients and elderly
people.
Plastic straw pillow filling creates incredible softness and
comfort, Chairman of the club Sukanda Suriyarangsi said, adding that the
recycle material was durable, washable and suitable for bedridden patients.
Sukanda said the healthy, economical and comfortable pillows
were available for sale for THB100 a piece at the club. (TNA)
