UTTARADIT, Sept 17 (TNA) – The northern province of Uttaradit
is holding ‘Langsat Festival’ to promote the fruit that is considered the pride
of the province.
To celebrate the sweet fruit with a yellowish skin, Langsat
or Lansium domesticum, which is one of the famed identities of Uttaradit,
farmers and provincial administration join hands to bring the best produce to
consumers at the festival.
Not only fresh produce but also unique local farming
techniques are offered to visitors by orchard farmers. Creative culinary is also displayed to show
numerous ways to prepare langsat dishes such as spicy langsat salad.
Besides its economic importance, Langsat is a famous and
cherished fruit of Uttaradit. The
festival, running from September 17-26, is aimed at reinforcing the pride of
Uttaradit province.
Many Uttaradit farmers grow langsat organically along with
other fruit trees including durian. They
produce about 37,000 tons of the fruit with translucent meat each year.(TNA)
