BANGKOK, Sept 5 (TNA) – Severe flooding continues in the
North and Northeast of Thailand as rescue teams are working around the clock to
drain water in flood-stricken areas.
In Sukhothai, army officers and local residents have joined
hands to reinforce dykes along the Yom River in Sri Samrong and Mueang
districts that have been damaged for two days.
Overflowing water has inundated dozens of houses forcing
people to take shelter on a highway.
Authorities in Sukhothai said workers had been sent to place
sandbags on several locations along the river. The dyke collapses have caused damages to people’s properties and
valuables as their houses quickly submerged in floods.
In the Northeast, Kalasin Governor Kraisorn Kongchalad
ordered workers to install more water pumps to speed up water drainage in Rong
Kham district.
Army personnel helped villagers to reinforce a damaged
section of a river dyke in Mueang district.
In Ubon Ratchathani, Na Yia district is submerged under deep
water prompting soldiers to evacuate flood victims from their houses.
Thousands of households in 16 districts have been affected
by flooding which has also damaged a large swathe of farmland in the province.
