BANGKOK, Sept 5 (TNA) – Thailand is committed to empowering micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) by promoting the use of
digital technology, Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha says at a forum on
ASEAN MSMEs.
At the opening of the Conference on ASEAN MSMEs in the
Digital Era: Challenges and Opportunities on Thursday, Gen Prayut acknowledged
the significance of MSMEs to the economy, therefore, the government designated
MSMEs promotion as a national agenda in 2014.
With the role of ASEAN chair, Thailand aimed to push for
resilient and innovative MSMEs in ASEAN as to promote regional economic
integration and prosperity, Gen Prayut said.
The premier urged ASEAN countries to assist MSMEs to address
challenges such as the utilization of digital technology, market access and
business information.
The conference is a platform for experts and representatives
from ASEAN members and dialogue partners to discuss the opportunities and
challenges for MSMEs.
ASEAN has placed an emphasis on the promotion of innovation
to enable MSMEs to grow under the ASEAN Economic Community 2025 Blueprint,
recognizing MSMEs’ contribution to livelihoods, communities and economies of
ASEAN members. (TNA)
