BANGKOK, Aug 30 (TNA) – Thailand would intensify
crackdown on human trafficking with a tougher measure to monitor and suppress
state officials involved in criminal activities, Social Development and Human
Security Minister Chuti Krairiksh said on Friday.
The minister revealed after a meeting of the Committee on
Human Trafficking Prevention and Suppression that anti- human trafficking
operations would be carried out targeting criminal rings nationwide.
The panel resolved to compile and revise statistics for
official report on Thailand’s measures against human trafficking rings to
ensure correct findings, he said.
Mr. Chuti noted that some information in the US State
Department’s 2019 Traffic in Persons (TIP) report appeared to be incorrect as
many based on unverified people’s accounts.
The latest US TIP report issued in June kept Thailand
ranking as a Tier 2 country for the second year.
Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan who headed the panel
instructed related agencies to keep government personnel in check while
providing with rewards and necessary tools to suppress human trafficking, Chuti
said.
Any government personnel allegedly found to have been
involved in human trafficking businesses would be brought to justice.
The meeting also discussed how to improve rescue and
protection of victims with respect to the human rights principles, Mr. Chuti
