BANGKOK, Jan 13 — Commerce Minister Chatchai Sarikulya will lead Thai rice exporters to visit Hong Kong on January 16 and 17 to promote Thai rice there.
According to the Department of Foreign Trade, the delegation will meet Hong Kong's secretary for commerce and economic development to discuss trade relations and importantly those concerning rice trade.
It will also meet the chairpersons of Hong Kong's three rice importers' associations that have been playing important roles in importing Thai rice and distributing it to local restaurants and households.
On the occasion, Gen Chatchai will witness the signing of a letter of intent on cooperation to promote Thai rice and a memorandum of understanding between Thai rice exporters and Hong Kong's rice importers.
Both pacts should involve trading 100,000 tons of rice and will be a good sign for increasing Thai rice's market share in Hong Kong.
The Ministry of Commerce will also present the Best Friend of Thai Rice Award to seven key importers of Thai rice in Hong Kong and further promote Thai rice there.
It discussed rice topics with 40 Hong Kong rice importers in Thailand late last year. (MCOT online news)
