BANGKOK, Feb 2 — The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) ordered the temporary closure of the LLIT (Thailand) Co tyre factory yesterdayafter the factory burnt down Sunday night, but the governor gave assurances there were no casualties and the blaze did not cause air pollution in the area.
IEAT Governor Verapong Chaiperm said that the damaged LLIT (Thailand) radial tyre factory was located in the Hemraj Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate of Chon Buri's Si Racha district.
According to the governor, the blaze broke out last night near the tyre warehouse before spreading to six other nearby storage buildings, though not far enough to reach the main production building. He said there were no reports of deaths or casualties from the incident.
The Industrial Estate Authority has temporarily closed the factory to ensure public safety and has blocked sewage outflow around the area to prevent water used to douse the flames from flowing into area communities, said the governor, adding that the waste water would be treated properly though standardised process.
Toxic sulphur and nitrogen compound levels in the area are a little higher than normal, but are not harmful.
An IEAT mobile unit is measuring air quality in the area to monitor and assure the public of the safety around the factory.
The factory has a total land area of 333 rais with an investment of Bt2.7 billion and a total of 619 workers. (MCOT online news)
