BANGKOK, Feb 19 — Representatives of the attorney general filed criminal charges with the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions 20 boxes of documents containing evidence against former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra for her loss-stricken rice-pledging scheme.
Meanwhile, her lawyers plan to use the witnesses whom the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) earlier excluded.
Ms Yingluck's lawyers told the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) this morning that she did not report to the attorney general today because the arraignment concerned only the office and the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions.
Lawyer Norawit Lalaeng said that Ms Yingluck was ready to defend herself at the court and her lawyers would bring to the court her witnesses that the NACC had rejected.
"The former prime minister said she was not concerned because the lawyers' team has prepared all documents. Regarding the NACC's letter to request the Ministry of Finance to demand over Bt600 billion from her in compensation for losses from the rice-pledging scheme, the lawyers' team has yet to discuss the issue but it is likely that it will file an objection letter with the Ministry of Finance next week," Mr Norawit said.
Later Chutichai Sakhakorn, OAG Special Litigation Department's director general, and Surasak Threerattrakul, director general of the OAG Department of Investigation, delivered the 20 boxes of criminal charge documents to the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions which stands in the same building of the OAG at the government complex.
