BANGKOK, July 2 (TNA) – A recent survey showed majority of respondents agreed that a Thai prime minister in future could be an outsider should the country faces a crisis on the condition that the person must receive at least two-thirds of a total member of the House of Representatives votes, said Thawilwadee Bureekul, a member of Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC).
The second round of survey was conducted on 77,160 persons in 77 provinces nationwide between May 1 – 31. Most of the questions were almost the same as the first round.
As many 93 per cent of the total respondents agreed that a member of the House of Representatives should resign from Lower House membership if he or she is appointed a prime minister or a minister, said Mrs. Thawilwadee.
She said 90.9 of the total respondents was in favour that party list members should be elected from popularity.
Up to 86.6 per cent of the respondents said a future prime minister could be an outsider if Thailand faces a crisis, but he or she must gain a minimum of two-thirds of vote from members of the Lower House.
Majority of the respondents agreed that political holders must submit their assets and liabilities to the state-run Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission while majority of respondents were also in favour that the judiciary institutions must come under reform. The public should be educated in a general law.
Touching on solving social conflicts in future, 77.3 of the respondents agreed that a coalition government should be formed followed by a military coup, dissolution of parliament and holding a fresh general election, Mrs. Thawilwadee added.(TNA)
