The Royal Thai Army reported nine people were killed in Cambodian rocket attacks in border provinces of Si Sa Ket, Surin, Ubon Ratchathani and Buriram so far on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand issued the statement on the situation saying Thailand is prepared to intensify our self-defense measures if Cambodia persists in its armed attack and violations upon Thailand’s sovereignty.
The statement also says that The Royal Thai Government condemns in the strongest terms the violations of Thailand’s sovereignty and international law, following the laying of anti-personnel landmines within Thai territory that caused injuries to Thai military personnel while Thai soldiers were patrolling on 16 and 23 July 2025.
On the morning of 24 July 2025, heavy artillery was fired into the Thai military base and continued throughout the morning targeting Thai civilian areas, including a hospital, it says.
Thailand calls upon Cambodia to take responsibility for the incidents that have occurred, cease attacks against civilian and military targets, and stop all actions that violate Thailand’s sovereignty, the statement says.
“The Thai Government is prepared to intensify our self-defense measures if Cambodia persists in its armed attack and violations upon Thailand’s sovereignty in accordance with international law and principles,” the statement says.
After attending a National Security Council meeting at Government House, Deputy Defence Minister Nattaphol Nakpanich who heads a special taskforce on Thai-Cambodian border, said Thailand had attempted to maintain dialogue with Cambodia and proposed ways to deescalate the tension but now all the communication channels apparently failed.
He said Thai troops were patrolling in the border area near when Cambodian troops opened fires at them.
“The Thai army has long exercised great tolerance but we will tolerate no more; the Cambodia’s actions are unacceptable,” he said. -(TNA)
