BANGKOK, Oct 5 (TNA) — Three suspects were arrested on Thursday for allegedly selling a modified blank gun and ammunition a 14-year-old boy who went on a shooting rampage inside Siam Paragon shopping mall in Bangkok on Tuesday afternoon.
The shooting spree killed two foreign nationals- one Chinese and one Myanmar and wounded five others, two of whom are still in the intensive care unit at a hospital.
Police say the firearms used by the boy in the incident were modified blank gun that had been purchased online for 16,000 baht.
Investigators from Yannawa Police Station in Bangkok asked the Southern Bangkok Criminal Court to issue arrest warrants for three individuals for colluding in illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and selling firearms and ammunition without permission.
Under the arrest warrant, a team of investigators from the Provincial Police Region 9 apprehended two of the three suspects at a house in tambon Sateng of Muang district in Yala at around 1am on Thursday.
The suspects are Suwananhong, 45, and his 22-year-old son Akkharawit.
After searhing the house, police can seize 209 rounds of ammunition for blank guns, 33 metal parts, two bank accounts, nine magazines and other items. The two men were being taken to Bangkok for questioning.
During questioning, Mr Suwannahong and Mr Akkharawit denied all charges.
The third suspect, identified only as Piyabut, 31, was arrested in Bangkok. He was allegedly involved in sending bullets and magazines to the 14 year old shooter.
He was found carring two guns with him.
The suspect in the shootings, a 14-year-old boy, has been charged with murder, attempted murder as well as possessing and carrying firearms without permission. (TNA)
