BANGKOK, Nov 17 (TNA) – Police have been deployed to provide security at Parliament and surrounding areas as protests by two opposing sides were planned today.
The Thai Pakdee (Loyal Thai) group gathered at Kiakkai intersection to oppose a charter rewrite and the draft law to amend the charter proposed by Internet Law Reform Dialogue (iLaw).
Lawmakers today discuss the constitution amendment during a special parliamentary session, convened to defuse the ongoing political problems.
The Thai Pakdi group notified the police to stage a demonstration from 9 am.to 2pm.
The Khana Ratsadorn (People’s Group) plans to stage a protest from Tuesday afternoon throughout the evening.
They announced their plan on social media to make Thai-style barbeque during their protest.
Regarding the police’s security measures, roads around the Parliament will be closed to traffic and barbed wire and barricades have been installed to protect the premises.
Nine companies of the police will take turns working to provide safety on land and water.
Pol Lt Gen Pakkapong Pongpetra, chief of the Metropolitan Police Bureau inspected security officials’ operation at Kiakkai intersection this morning.
He ordered officials to do their duty cautiously. (TNA)
