BANGKOK, Oct 25 (TNA) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha chaired a cabinet meeting which discussed COVID-19, country reopening and flood responses before the ASEAN Summit tomorrow.
The cabinet’s meeting was rescheduled today instead of tomorrow when the prime minister will attend the 38th and 39th ASEAN Summit from Oct 26 to 28.
Important issues in the cabinet meeting today included COVID-19 solutions for country reopening to welcome visitors from 45 countries and Hong Kong without mandatory quarantine. The cabinet was expected to acknowledge relevant measures and consider the reception of visitors from other low-risk countries.
Besides, the cabinet will work out assistance for victims of floods which remain severe in many areas. It will also plan responses to floods expected in the South late this month.
Regarding COVID-19 vaccination to support country reopening, Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said inoculation already covered more than 50% of the Thai population while the target was set at 70%.
He also said that COVID-19 outbreaks were slowing down in the South because the government quickly delivered vaccine doses to four southern border provinces over the past two weeks to contain the disease. Many people in the far South have been inoculated and this week vaccines will reach other heavily hit provinces including Nakhon Si Thammarat, Mr. Anutin said. (TNA)
