UBON RATCHATHANI, July 25 (TNA) – Over 60,000 people have been evacuated in Thailand after intensified border clashes with Cambodia erupted yesterday.
The Royal Thai Army is spearheading the evacuation and aid efforts across 14 districts in four provinces.
Major Jutaphat Prembanyat, Assistant Spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army, confirmed that the army is working with local authorities to move residents from the conflict zone along the Thai-Cambodian border. This follows heavy artillery attacks by Cambodian forces into Thai territory, impacting parts of Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani provinces, with civilian areas, including homes and hospitals, reportedly hit.
As of July 25, 63,446 people have been evacuated from the affected areas to ensure their safety. These include 4,813 from Buriram, 21,646 from Surin, 26,511 from Sisaket, and 10,476 from Ubon Ratchathani.
The Royal Thai Army has established six royal kitchens and deployed two mobile field kitchens to provide food to the displaced. Additionally, the 22nd Military Circle, in coordination with Ubon Ratchathani province, has deployed volunteer units to patrol and protect the properties of evacuated residents, aiming to ease their concerns about personal belongings. -819 (TNA)
