BANGKOK, May 5 (TNA) – Thailand’s Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, welcomed Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to Bangkok for a state visit, marking the first such visit by an Indonesian leader in 20 years, and elevating bilateral relations to a strategic partnership.
The visit, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Thailand and Indonesia, saw President Subianto received as a guest of the Thai government.
The two leaders conducted a guard of honor inspection at the Government House, followed by full-scale bilateral talks under the inaugural Leaders’ Consultation mechanism. This mechanism, initiated by Thailand, aims to facilitate regular high-level discussions and accelerate cooperation in key areas including security, trade and investment, food security, tourism, education, people-to-people exchanges, and regional collaboration.
During the visit, the two leaders jointly announced the elevation of bilateral relations to a strategic partnership, aligning with the 75th anniversary celebrations. They also witnessed the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Thai and Indonesian Ministries of Public Health, signifying strengthened cooperation in the health sector. -819 (TNA)
