YUNNAN, Feb 6 (TNA) – The city of Tengchong, Yun Nan Province has geothermal resources, making it a tourist destination for relaxation and health care. There is also a cooking technique, using the heat from hot springs to make those dishes nutritious and beneficial for health.
Yunnan Daily reports on the culinary practices in Tengchong, stating that there is no need for stoves or ovens since the natural heat beneath the earth can be utilized to transform traditional cooking methods such as frying and deep-frying into steaming with the heat from hot springs. This preserves the nutrients well, and the hot springs also contain minerals, aligning with the preferences of modern health-conscious individuals.
One interesting menu item is the Multigrain Rice, which absorbs heat from the hot steam. In addition to being high in carbohydrates, Multigrain Rice is rich in dietary fiber. The five different colors in Multigrain Rice, namely red, green, yellow, purple, and white, are derived from flowers and plants in nature, ensuring that there are no chemical additives. When consumed, it offers a faint fragrance of flowers and plants.
The Four Treasures consist of Chinese yam, corn, taro, and sweet potato. These unique foods in Tengchong are grown at the foot of volcanoes. They are steamed with the heat beneath the earth and require no additional seasonings.
The Green Leaf Vegetable Soup is an easy-to-make dish using locally grown vegetables in Tengchong. Simply boil the vegetables in boiling water and enjoy them with a dipping sauce for the natural freshness and sweetness of the vegetables.
Eggs cooked by the steam from hot springs may appear similar to regular eggs on the surface, but upon peeling, they reveal a filling of fragrant mushrooms and minced meat.
The soup, made from pork and local chicken bones with hot spring water rich in minerals, is boiled to create a dense broth. Fresh vegetables, meat, and Tengchong-style noodles are added, and the taste can be adjusted according to preference.
