BANGKOK, Feb 16 (TNA) – Duangphet “Dom” Phromthep, a young “Wildboar” footballer, rescued from a flooded cave in Chiang Rai five years ago has died in the UK after he was found unconscious in his dorm on Sunday.
Kiatisuk Senamuang aka Zico, former Thai national football team coach and chairman of the Zico foundation, which granted the scholarship to the gifted young footballer to study at a football academy in Leicester expressed his condolence to Dom’s family during a press conference via zoom.
Kiatisuk said with tears in his eyes that he was shocked by what had happened and was sad that he could not support Dom to achieve his football dream. He would help Dom’s family in making arrangement for his body. His mother said she wanted his body to be sent home for funeral ceremonies.
Tham Luang cave survivor was enrolled at the Brooke House College Football Academy late last year. A teacher at the dorm found him unconsciuos in his room before sending him to hospital where he later died on Tuesday. The hospital informed the Thai embassy in the UK about his death.
Zico said the cause of his death was unclear. He would wait for the hospital to officially reveal the details.(TNA)
